FOOTBALL’S MARTE MAPU NAMED SACRAMENTO STATE’S MALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Football's Marte Mapu has been named Sacramento State's Male Student-Athlete of the Year…the nickelback was named first team All-America by the Associated Press, Stats Perform and Athlon…named second team All-America by the AFCA and Phil Steele…became just the second Hornet to be named the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year…also selected first team all-Big Sky…drafted in the third round by the New England Patriots, the highest draft pick ever for a Hornet…ranked second on the team with 76 total tackles in his 13 games…had at least three tackles in each game and had five or more in 11 contests.

Mark Keki (Tennis) - A unanimous first team all-Big Sky selection in singles…also a first team all-Big Sky choice in doubles…became the first Sacramento State tennis player to be named first team all-Big Sky (singles) three consecutive years since 2011…went 11-3 in singles play (10-3 at No. 1 in the lineup; 1-0 at No. 2)…that includes a 6-0 record in Big Sky regular season matches…had a nine-match singles winning streak from Jan. 29-April 15…went 10-3 in doubles play (all at No. 1 in the lineup with Mate Voros).

Casey Leebrick (Golf) - Was the medalist at the Big Sky Championship after shooting 64-71-67-202 to set the school 54-hole record for any tournament…averaged 73.03 strokes per round which placed him 13th in school single-season history…that mark helped him earn first team all-Big Sky honors…his seven rounds in the 60s are tied for the fourth most in the school single-season record book…he is also tied for sixth with 16 rounds at or below par, and tied for seventh after leading the team in six tournaments.

Cameron Skattebo (Football) - Earned second team All-America honors from Stats Perform and the AFCA…named third team All-America by the Associated Press and Phil Steele…named the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Year and was a first team all-league selection…rushed for 1,373 yards which ranked fifth in school single-season history…his average of 7.01 yards per carry placed him third all-time at Sacramento State…had eight 100-yard rushing games…1,878 all-purpose yards are fourth best in program history…his career rushing average of 7.48 yards per carry is the best in school history.

Martin Vincelli-Simard (Baseball) - Finished the regular season batting .342 with 16 doubles, 17 home runs, and 60 RBI, while slugging .684 and posting a team-high 1.092 OPS en route to first team all-WAC honors…his 17 home runs tied for fourth on the school's single-season list and accounted for nearly half of his 35 career homers – a total that is tied for the program record…slugging percentage was the eighth best in a season in school history, while his 60 RBIs tied for ninth…had 20 multi-hit games – which included a team-high eight three-hit contests…led the squad with 21 multi-RBI performances.

Austin Wehner (Soccer) - Started 18 matches and finished with four goals and three assists for 11 points…named to the United Soccer Coaches' all-Far West Region third team and was a first team all-Big West Conference selection…became just the sixth Hornet to earn all-region honors dating back to 1991, and the first since 2017…was the first Hornet since Paul Geyer and Cylus Sandoval in 2017 to earn first-team all-Big West honors, and only the fifth Big West first team selection in the history of the program…finished the regular season tied for second in the league in goals in conference matches, tied for third in points, and tied for sixth in assists.
