GOLF RECIPIENT OF SACRAMENTO STATE’S FEMALE TEAM PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Golf has been awarded Sacramento State's Female Team Performance of the Year…finished the season strong, dominating the last half of the regular season, winning the final four tournaments and earning a top 60 national ranking…the four consecutive victories are the longest streak in school history…the streak started with the team defending its title at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawaii…next was a win at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Arizona…the following week the team won the Riverside Classic…Sacramento State then won the Big Sky Conference Championship by 16 strokes, breaking the three-round tournament record by 10 stokes.

OTHER NOMINEES

Basketball - The Hornets finished the season with a perfect 3-0 homestand, breezing past league-leading Montana State and following that with wins over Montana and Portland State to clinch a share of the Big Sky regular season title…each victory came by seven points or more…the win over Portland State on Senior Night set off a wild postgame celebration after the Hornets secured their first-ever Big Sky Conference regular season title…the Hornets won nine straight (including the Big Sky Tourney title) before falling to UCLA at the NCAA Tournament.

Gymnastics - Produced its best score in nearly seven years and rallied for a narrow 195.725-195.650 victory over Air Force…the score is the fifth highest in school history and the best since the team totaled 196.300 at the MPSF Championships in 2016…the Hornets accounted for the individual winner on all four events…Amber Koeth claimed the top spot in all three of her events, sharing the honor with freshman Kara Houghton on bars and floor…Emma Morgenthaler added a victory on vault to spark the team.

Rowing - In its home opener, Rowing posted a very fast time of 6:29.0 over 2,000 meters at Lake Natoma…that time was 6.5 seconds faster than Kansas State (6:35.5) of the Big 12 Conference…making the victory even more impressive - of the nine athletes in the boat, four were freshmen…in fact, the Hornets had freshmen in the 6, 5, 4 and bow seats…the time of 6:29.0 was the team's fastest mark of the season.

Volleyball - In the Big Sky Tournament quarterfinals, Volleyball was trailing Montana, 1-0, in sets, and 17-13 in the second set…however, the Hornets ripped off a 12-0 run to closet the set, and used that momentum to eventually defeat the Grizzlies, 3-1…Bridgette Smith was brilliant, as the Hornets scored 11 straight points on her serve…the Hornets would then close the third on a 3-0 run to win, 25-21, and close the fourth on a 4-1 run to win, 25-23.
