TENNIS RECIPIENT OF SACRAMENTO STATE’S FEMALE TEAM PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Tennis has been awarded Sacramento State's Female Team Performance of the Year…the Hornets did not surrender a point on the way to their second consecutive Big Sky Conference Tournament title, sweeping past both No. 3 seed Idaho (4-0) and regular season champion Northern Arizona (4-0)…the win over the Lumberjacks avenged the Hornets' only conference loss of the regular season…won both doubles points, then took home wins in all six of its completed singles matches in straight sets as part of their dominating run.

OTHER NOMINEES

Basketball - Katie Peneueta finished with 19 points to lead four players in double figures as the Hornets spoiled regular season and tournament champion Montana State's bid for an undefeated Big Sky season with a 73-69 win in Bozeman…the win snapped MSU's 19-game winning streak, which was tied for the second longest in the nation at the time…the Hornets turned an eight-point halftime deficit into a seven-point lead with a 15-0 run in the third.

Golf - The Hornets became just the third women's golf program in Big Sky Conference history to win three consecutive Big Sky titles, and the first since Portland State in 2003-05…the Hornets won the event by 15 strokes and finished at 1-over par as a team…all five members of the team finished in the top 15, led by a second-place showing from Caitlin Maurice, a tie for fourth from Darla May Dela Torre, and a tie for sixth from Florencia Dufey.

Gymnastics - The Hornets set a then season-high score of 195.150 in the first of back-to-back meets at Alaska Anchorage…the performance is more impressive considering the team hotel was the site of a hostage situation which required a heavy police presence the night before…competing with limited sleep, Sacramento State responded by never trailing in the meet and producing the individual event winner on each event.

Rowing - The Hornets' varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four each won gold medals in their respective grand finals at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championship at Lake Natoma… the Hornets were able to win gold in all three races at the same WIRA Championship for the first time in program history…the WIRA gold was the first for the Hornets' varsity eight since 2022, the second varsity won its first gold since 2023, and the varsity four its first since 2017.

Soccer - The Hornets finished the season on a nine-match unbeaten streak (3-0-6), which included becoming the first school in conference history to claim the Big Sky Tournament title on PKs in all three of its wins during the tourney…surrendered only five goals (0.52 GAA) over the 865:19 in the nine-match span…that unbeaten streak is tied for the second longest in school history, and the longest since the program went unbeaten in 17 straight matches (11-0-6) in 2019.

Volleyball - Overcame a 2-1 sets deficit to eventually defeat Northern Colorado, 3-2, in the Big Sky Conference Tournament championship match at the Nest…the victory delivered the Hornets their first Big Sky Tourney title since the 2007 season, and an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament…three Hornets were named all-tournament (Bridgette Smith, Caitlin Volkmann, Reese Ampi), and Smith was the tournament MVP…the Hornets never trailed in the fifth and final set, jumping out to a 5-0 lead.
