TRACK & FIELD’S GIANNI MILES NAMED SACRAMENTO STATE MALE NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

Track and Field's Gianni Miles has been named Sacramento State's Male Newcomer of the Year…was the Big Sky Conference outdoor champion in the 100 and placed second in the 200…ran 10.31 in the 100 to win the Causeway Classic Dual meet…that time ranks fourth in school history and was the fastest by a Sacramento State athlete since 1991…top 200 time was 20.90 at the Big Sky meet and placed him second in school history…indoors, he finished the season ranked third all-time at Sacramento State in the 60 in 6.73 seconds.

Erick Dessens (Baseball)
- A first team all-Western Athletic Conference selection who led the team with a .356 batting average and finished second with a .970 OPS…also had 50 runs scored, 88 hits, 17 doubles, 10 home runs and 64 RBIs…slugged .563 on the season with a .407 on-base percentage…paced the squad with 26 multi-hit games - 11 of those games with three hits or more…among the nation's leaders, he ranked 21st in hits, 42nd in hits per game (1.49), and 45th in RBIs.

Rodney Hammond, Jr. (Football) - Named first team all-Big Sky Conference as a running back and second team as an all-purpose player and kick returner…rushed for 1,213 yards which placed him ninth in school single-season history…averaged 6.48 yards per carry which is sixth best by a Hornet…led the team with 13 rushing touchdowns which is also sixth in Sacramento State history…led the Big Sky with 132.3 rushing yards per game in conference play…rushed for over 100 yards in seven of the final eight games of the year.

Prophet Johnson (Basketball) - A second team all-Big Sky Conference selection…played in 30 games, including 29 starts…two-time Big Sky Player of the Week…College Insider National Player of the Week on Feb. 2…averaged 18.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.6 steals and 35.4 minutes per game…shot 47% (191-408) from the field, 39% (49-125) from the 3-point line, and 74% (115-155) from the free throw line…ranked fifth in the nation with 2.6 steals per game…14 games with 20+ points.

Myles McFarland (Track & Field) - Was the Big Sky Conference outdoor champion in the 110-hurdles…ran a personal-best 13.69 in the first round of the NCAA West Preliminary…that time is the second fastest in school history, and the best since 2011…was also first at the Causeway Classic Dual meet…during the indoor season, he ran 7.88 at the Big Sky Championships which moved him into second place in school history…finished first at the UW Invitational in the 110-hurdles.
