TRACK & FIELD SWEEPS TEAM TITLES AT CAUSEWAY CLASSIC DUAL

Meet was the final meet for the team before the Big Sky Outdoor Championship

DAVIS, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's and women's track and field teams were able to defend their titles with a pair of victories over UC Davis in the annual Causeway Classic Dual on Friday at Woody Wilson Track.

The Hornet women won 11 events to claim a 150-88 victory. The men finished first in nine events for a 95-77 win.

WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Kassidy Schroth made her outdoor debut and won the 100 in 12.29. She was followed by Kameryn Brown who finished second with a career best of 12.31.
  • Daysha Ford won the 200 and 400. Ford ran 24.39 in the 200 and moved into sixth place in school history with a time of 54.57 in the 400. Kacyra Simmons ranked second on the team in both events with times of 24.45 (200) and 57.86 (400).
  • Alyssa Brewer, Mia Lawrence and Sarah Collier took the top three spots in the 800. Brewer was first in 2:08.41 to win the race by over six seconds.
  • Molly Latincsics and Dani Gee scored for the team in the 1500 and 5K. Latincsics ran 4:38.88 to place third in the 1500 and was second in the 5K in 17:53.21.
  • Ava Fitzgerald wont he 100-hurdles with a career best time of 13.94. Her time is the best among Hornets this season and places the freshman fourth in the Big Sky this season.
  • Tia Oliver moved from sixth to third place in the Hornet record book with a time of 10:49.32 in the steeplechase. Her time was nearly a 10 second improvement over her previous best of 10:59.41 set earlier this season.
  • The Hornet relay teams finished first in both races. The 4x100 team finished in 46.48 while the 4x400 had a time of 3:44.63.

MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Blaize Holand won the 100 and 200. He ran a season best 10.53 in the 100 and returned to win the 200 in 21.35.
  • Nautus Moore was first in the 400 and second in the 200. Moore set a season best in the 200 in 22.07 and clocked a time of 47.78 to win the 400.
  • Zachary Winger was first in the 110-hurdles and second in the 400-hurdles. Winger won the 110H in 14.59 and set a PR in the 400H in 55.89.
  • Like the women, the Hornet men took the top spot in the relays. The 4x100 team ran 41.80 while the 4x400 had a time of 3:16.25.

WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Izzi Leonard set a career best and is now tied for 10th place in the high jump in school history after clearing 5-07.00.
  • Tamia Ramos and Kasee Aczon scored in the long jump by placing second and third, respectively. Ramos led the duo with a best of 18-04.50. Aczon set a career best at 18-04.25.
  • Tamia Flowers and Alexia Croffet finished second and third in the triple jump.
  • Abby Meder won the discus and was second in the hammer behind a career best. Meder's top discus throw was 145-04 which placed her over five feet ahead the closest competitor. Her hammer throw of 169-11 was a 38-inch improvement over her previous best.
  • Abby Sheets won the javelin with a career best of 108-00 and was second in the shot put. Her best shot put of 43-04.50 was over five feet beyond her previous best.

MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Miles Grant won the high jump by clearing 6-06.75.
  • John Gibbs and Andrew Lehner each cleared 15-03.25 in the high jump. Gibbs was awarded first and Lehner took second based on attempts. The height was a career outdoor best for Lehner.
  • The Hornets also captured titles in both horizontal jumps. Mason Mitchell had a best of 23-08.25 to win the long jump and set his career best by 2.25 inches. John Gibbs had the top mark in the triple jump at 48-06.25.
  • John Maka was second in both the discus and hammer. Maka had discus throw of 165-08 and set his career best in the hammer at 164-10.
  • Joshua Braun won the javelin with a long of 100-08 which crushed his previous best of 89-04.
