FOUR HORNETS EARN BERTHS AT NCAA WEST PRELIMINARY

Quartet will compete at Arkansas on May 27-30

INDIANAPOLIS — Four Sacramento State student-athletes were selected to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary, it was announced today. The mee will take place in Fayetteville, Ark., on May 27-30. The group is comprised of Ava Fitzgerald (100-hurdles), Myles McFarland (110-hurdles), Eli Kaltreider (high jump) and Jamar Andrews, Jr. (triple jump).
 
The road to the NCAA Outdoor Championships begins with the East and West Preliminary. Each individual event has 48 competitors at both regionals with the top 12 finishers from each site earning a trip to Eugene, Ore.
 
Fitzgerald will be making her third NCAA postseason appearance in the 100-hurdles. The senior had a season best time of 13.45 to win the Causeway Classic Dual and will enter the NCAA West Preliminary seeded 43rd.
 
McFarland, a true freshman, is coming off a victory at the Big Sky Outdoor Championship where he ran 13.91 which ranks fourth in school history. His time seeds him 46th in the event at the West Preliminary.
 
Kaltreider opened the outdoor season with a high jump of 6-11.75 at the Jim Bush Legends meet at UCLA. That mark tied him for ninth in school history and has him seeded 35th in the West. The sophomore finished second at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships with a clearance at 6-10.25.
 
Andrews in the midst of an amazing freshman season which has seen him jump at least 49-feet in six meets, including two over 50 feet. His mark of 53-feet, 1-inch at the Jim Bush Legends was the second-best in school history and makes him the highest-seeded Hornet at the West Preliminary as he enters the meet ranked 14th.
 
The NCAA West Preliminary will see the men compete on Wednesday and Friday and the women on Thursday and Saturday. McFarland opens the action at 4 p.m. PT on the opening day while Fitzgerald will go at the same time on Thursday. Kaltreider will compete in the high jump at 12 p.m. PT on Friday while Andrews opening the triple jump at 4 p.m. PT. If McFarland and Fitzgerald advance to the quarterfinals of the hurdles they will run at 4:15 p.m. PT on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
