GRESHAM, Ore. — Myles McFarland won the 110-hurdles,
Gianni Miles the 200 and
Jamar Andrews, Jr., the triple jump to lift the Sacramento State men's track and field team to its best finish at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships since 2017. The Hornets finished with 110 points to take second place overall. The Hornet women had five all-Big Sky performances on the final day to finish in fifth place with 72.5 points.
Â
Miles was named the Male Most Outstanding Athlete after taking first place in the 100, second in the 200 and was part of the 4x100 relay which finished in second place. He combined to score 26 points for the team over the three events.
Â
Men's Track Highlights
- The team's first points on the track on Saturday came in the 4x100 relay where the Hornets finished second in 40.25. The team finished .15 seconds back of Montana but were more than a quarter-second ahead of third-place Northern Arizona. The team of Isaiah King, Gianni Miles, Nathan Rider and Jonas Petty earned all-Big Sky honors by placing in the top three.
- McFarland continued Sacramento State's long history of success in the 110-hurdles as he claimed the 11th title by a Hornet in the event since 1999. He joins former All-American Ronald Brookins as the only Sacramento State freshman to win the Big Sky title.
- Curtis Reagor earned all-Big Sky honors in the 400 behind a career-best performance. Reagor took three-tenths off his PR and finished in 46.89 which moved him into a tie for fourth place in program history. Nathan Rider also scored in the event with a time of 47.94 to place fifth.]
- Miles won the 100 in 10.33 seconds and finished .08 ahead of the next closest competitor. He is the first Hornet to win the event at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships since Eric Adorno in 2015. Freshmen Jonas Petty and Jayden Thompson finished in fifth and eighth, respectively, to give the team 15 points in the event. Petty ran 10.61 while Thompson crossed in 10.80.
- Brandon Moreno earned all-conference honors in the 800. A day after running the second-fastest time in school history (1:48.91), Moreno finished in a loaded field in 1:49.16.
- Blake Gross and Brock Gross added nine points to the team total after placing fourth and fifth in the 400-hurdles. Blake Gross followed his 52.16 in the qualifying round with a time of 52.58. Brock Gross set his PR in 53.13 to take .48 seconds off his previous best.
- Miles and Petty each finished among the top four in the 200 to give the team 13 points. After a lengthy lightning delay, Miles ran 20.90 to take second. His time was .24 seconds better than his previous best and moved him into second place behind Jody Johnson who ran 20.64 in 2007.
- Another lightning delay pushed back the start of the men's 4x400 before the team closed the meet by taking third in 3:10.54. The team of Curtis Reagor, Nathan Rider, Ife Orekoya and Malachi Cox earned all-Big Sky honors.
