SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State's
Greta Davis (volleyball) and
Nathan Rider (track and field) were named Big Sky Conference Scholar-Athletes for the 2025-26 academic year, it was announced by the league.
Davis and Rider were two of just 22 honorees across the Big Sky's 10 full-time members and two football-only affiliates. Each of the Big Sky's 10 full-time members had one male, and one female, selected.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must have exhausted his or her intercollegiate athletic eligibility and/or be a member of the graduating class, earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 (on a 4.0) scale, been a participant in a Big Sky-sponsored sport, completed at least two (2) years of intercollegiate competition at the institution, and been a letterwinner.
GRETA DAVIS
• Graduated Summa Cum Laude in May with a 3.912 GPA and a mathematics degree
• The 3.912 GPA was the second highest among all senior female student-athletes at Sacramento State
• Named to the Dean's Honor List in seven of eight semesters
• Four-time Big Sky Conference all-academic selection
• Team captain this past season for a Hornet squad that finished 20-10 overall and 12-4 in the Big Sky
• Played in 118 career matches, and started 28 of 30 matches this past season
• During her four years, the Hornets combined for a 78-49 overall record, and 46-18 conference mark
• Key member of two Big Sky Conference championship teams (2023, 2024)
• Finished career with 434 kills, 381 digs and 126 blocks
• Also played for the Hornets' beach volleyball team, never missing a contest during her career and playing 108 consecutive matches
• Davis' 108 beach matches played are most in program history
NATHAN RIDER
• Named Sacramento State's Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, given to the Hornet student-athlete that had the highest cumulative grade point average among all males who are a senior athletically
• Graduated Magna Cum Laude in May with a kinesiology degree and a 3.869 GPA
• Named to the Dean's Honor List in six of his eight semesters at Sacramento State
• Three-time Big Sky all-academic selection
• This past season, he scored for the Hornets in three events at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championship and two events at the Indoor Championship
• Tied for fourth in school history after running 46.89 in the 400 to win the Causeway Classic Dual
• Moved into sixth place in the Hornet record book with a 200 time of 20.98
• Part of the 4x400 relay team which recorded the two fastest times in school history
• Set the school indoor record in the 200 (21.02) which had stood since 2009
