TRACK & FIELD BEGINS BUSY WEEKEND AT THREE MEETS

Rutter records school top 10 in the 10K; Brewer records fastest time in the Big Sky in the 800

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field teams started its three-meet weekend with athletes competing at the Texas Relays, Mike Fanelli Track Classic and Jack Albiani Invitational on Thursday.

Hailey Rutter started the day by improving on her eighth place position in school history in the 10K at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at San Francisco State. Rutter ran 37:17.31 to shave five seconds off her previous best which came last season at the same meet.

The Hornets were also represented by Paden Collard at the meet who ran 32:29.19 in the men's 10K — his first attempt at the distance in his collegiate career.

At the Texas Relays, Alyssa Brewer placed 11th overall with a time of 2:09.30. Brewer narrowly missed cracking the school top 10, finishing one-hundredth of a second off the list. Her time is easily the fastest in the Big Sky Conference this season, topping the mark of 2:09.96 from Montana State's Madison Smith entering this week.

The Hornet throwers competed at the Jack Albiani Invitational at Modesto Junior College on Thursday. Results from the meet have not yet been made available.

On Friday, Sacramento State will see Ava Fitzgerald run the 100-hurdles at the Texas Relays and several middle distance runners compete at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. The weekend will conclude with the sprints and jumps at the meet on Saturday.
