SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Playing each other for the second time four days, San Jose State and Sacramento State squared off in a beach volleyball contest Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Beach. San Jose State got the upper hand today, winning, 5-0.
Of the five Spartan doubles wins in today's matchup, three came in straight sets and two came in the maximum three sets. The Spartans (3-3) also beat the Hornets in Sacramento on Sunday by a 4-1 score.
Sacramento State was playing its final road match of the regular season, and the Hornets saw Karlee Soderberg/Caty Cordano (18-21, 21-16, 17-15 at No. 4), and Tiyanane Kamba-Griffin/Paige Calvin (21-16, 19-21, 15-9 at No. 5) both fall in three sets.
Ashtin Olin/Macey Hayden (No. 1), Paige Swinney/Kalani Hayes (No. 2) and Sarah Falk/Michelle Taynton (No. 3) each lost in straight sets.
Sacramento State will play its final matches of the regular season this Saturday when it hosts UC Davis for a doubleheader at 10 a.m. The Big West Conference Tournament will take place in Long Beach on April 30-May 1.
