BEACH VOLLEYBALL SEASON COMES TO CLOSE WITH PROGRAM-RECORD 14 WINS

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Sacramento State's season came to an end at the Big West Conference Championship on Thursday at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.

The double elimination tournament featured all seven teams from the Big West, and Sacramento State entered as the No. 6 seed. The Hornets began the day by falling to 16th-ranked Hawaii, 5-0, before falling in the evening to CSU Bakersfield, 3-2.

Despite the season coming to a close, Sacramento State had its best campaign in program history (2013-pres.). The team's 14 wins were easily a program record, surpassing the previous mark of eight, set in 2017.

In addition, the Hornets' duo of Kate Doorn/Mia Guevara won another match today, and finish the season with a 20-11 record. The 20 victories are a new program single-season record for most victories by a Hornet pair.

Senior Ashlynn Archer, coming off a brilliant indoor season, further strengthened her standing as one of the program's best beach players. Archer won 14 matches today, and now has 40 wins during her career - the third best mark in school history.

Sacramento State finished the season with a 14-17 record, but five of those losses came to nationally ranked opposition. That included today against 16th-ranked Hawaii as the Rainbow Wahine also defeated the Hornets earlier this season at the Big West Challenge.

In the matchup with CSU Bakersfield, the Hornets' doubles teams of Archer/Reese Ampi was victorious at No. 1 by a score of 21-18, 21-12, and Doorn/Guevara won at No. 3, 11-21, 21-12, 15-7. Besides the Doorn/Guevara match, the other four were decided in straight sets.

Seniors Archer, Doorn, Guevara, Greta Davis, Abbey Kadillak, Mackenzie Natusch and Karlie Spohn played their final matches in a Sacramento State uniform.
