Kate Doorn and
Mia Guevara, and junior
Reese Ampi were named honorable mention all-Big West Conference today. The Big West is comprised of seven teams in beach volleyball, including three nationally ranked squads.
For all three players, it marked the first time of their careers they were named to the all-Big West beach team.Â
Ampi teamed with
Ashlynn Archer to form the Hornets' No. 1 doubles team, while Doorn/Guevara was the team's No. 3 pair.
Sacramento State finished the season with a school-record 14 victories.
AMPI
• Played in all 31 matches with Archer, including 17 times at No. 1, and 14 times at No. 2
• Spent the first 11 matches of the season at No. 2, before playing 17 of the final 21 at No. 1
• Won 14 matches, the third most in program single-season history (2013-pres.)
• Had a 9-5 record at the No. 2 spot
• Won three of the final four matches of the season, including a 21-18, 21-12 win at No. 1 over CSU Bakersfield in the second round of the Big West Championship
• With the score tied at 2-2 vs. Santa Clara, Ampi/Archer trailed, 10-5, in the third set before storming back to win 15-21, 23-21, 16-14, and snapping the Hornets' 12-match losing streak to the Broncos
• Went 7-4 in three-set matches
DOORN/GUEVARA
• The duo played together in all 31 matches, primarily at the No. 3 spot
• Went 1-0 at No. 2, 13-7 at No. 3, and 6-4 at No. 4
• Posted a team-best 20-11 record
• The 20 victories were easily the most by a Hornet pair in Sacramento State single-season history, surpassing the previous mark of 16
• Won eight of their final 10 matches of the season
• Went 6-2 in three-set matches
• Did not lose at home, posting a 5-0 record
• Posted consecutive wins over Santa Clara, followed by a victory over UC Davis during a two-day stretch (April 17-18)
• Won five straight from March 7-14
