SACRAMENTO -- In a match that saw four of five doubles outcomes reach the maximum three sets, it was San Jose State that outlasted Sacramento State, 4-1, on Sunday morning at Hornet Beach.
The Hornets, who were playing their first-ever matches at Hornet Beach this weekend, dropped to 0-4 on the young season. Hornet Beach is a brand new 26,000 square foot on-campus beach volleyball facility. Sacramento State played twice yesterday and once today, marking the first three contests for the Hornets at their new home.
San Jose State improved to 2-2 with the win. The Hornets and Spartans will play again on Wednesday in San Jose at 3 p.m.
Sacramento State's lone win in today's match was Paige Swinney and Kalani Hayes beating Letizia Cammillucci and Siena Brewster at No. 2 by a 21-17, 17-21, 15-12 score. The tandem of Swinney/Hayes continues to impress as the duo is now 3-1 this season with every match taking place at No. 2 in the lineup. All three of those victories have come in three sets.
However, the Hornets won just one of the four three-set outcomes today as Sarah Falk/Michelle Taynton (No. 3), Karlee Soderberg/Caty Cordano (No. 4) and Tiyanane Kamba-Griffin/Paige Calvin (No. 5) each fell in three sets. Ashtin Olin and Macey Hayden lost at No. 1 by a 21-15, 21-14 score.
