SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field teams accounted for 16 personal bests and four school top 10 marks across three Bay Area meets on Saturday. The weekend saw the teams middle distance and distance runners at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at San Francisco State, the sprinters, hurdlers and throwers at the Stanford Invitational and the multis and jumpers at the Brutus Hamilton Multi and Invitational in Berkeley, Calif.
 

Mike Fanelli Track Classic

• A day after setting the school record in the 1500, Brandon Moreno finished in first place in the 800 and moved into fifth place in Sacramento State history. Moreno ran 1:49.79 which was the fastest time by a Hornet since Nathanael Litwiller set the school record in 2011. Moreno's previous best was 1:50.55 which had ranked sixth all-time in the school record book.
• Along with Moreno, Cooper Love (1:53.86), Logan Borg (1:54.65), Kanye Martin (1:55.43) and Kelly Galicia-Thomas (2:01.42) each set PRs in the 800.
• In the women's 800, Dominique Abbott placed second in the race with a personal best of 2:09.72. Abbott shaved over a half-second off her previous best of 2:10.28 and missed moving into the school top 10 by .48 seconds.
• Lilly Escoria (2:11.25), Viviana Valenton (2:12.37, Ashley Busienei (2:15.05), Dakota Gibson (2:19.41) and Kate Sanders (2:20.60) all set PRs in the 800 along with Abbott.

 

Stanford Invitational

• Zachary Winger recorded the sixth-fastest 110-hurdles time in Sacramento State history. The senior finished in third place at the meet with a time of 14.07 which took .05 seconds off his previous low. Winger's time was the fastest by a Hornet since 2018.
• Xavier Bruce finished in fifth place in the 100 in 10.75 seconds.
• The men's 4x100 relay team of Isaiah King, Winger, Nathan Rider and Bruce was third in 41.14 seconds.
• Ava Fitzgerald had the highest finish for the women as she was second in the 100-hurdles in 13.65 seconds.
• The team of Breija Stredic, Tristian Campbell, Zoe Ewell and Jayla Cigar-Dingle ran the seventh-fastest 4x400 relay in school history. The quartet finished in fourth place in the meet in 3:42.12.
• The women's 4x100 team of Jessi Barry, Fitzgerald, Kassidy Schroth and Ewell was third in 45.87.
• Ewell was also fifth in the 100 in 11.89 seconds. On Friday, the senior ran 24.30 in the 200 to tie for fourth place.

 

Brutus Hamilton Invitational

• Jayla Flowers was second in the triple jump behind a best of 37-10.50.
• Abby Sheets set a personal best and is now tied for 10^th place in school history after clearing 5-07.00 in the high jump. That performance placed Sheets fourth in the meet.
• Miles Grant finished in second place overall and had the best collegiate showing in the men's high jump after clearing 6-11.00. Eli Katrieder finished in fourth place with a personal best of 6-08.75.
• Michael Cherry was fifth in the long jump at 22-05.00 which was 17-inches beyond his previous best.
