SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Hornet track and field teams set two school top 10 records, 34 personal bests and won 19 events at the Sacramento State Invitational on Saturday.
Women's Track Highlights
- Freshman Breiah Stredic finished first in the 100 and the 400-hurdles while setting personal bests in both. Stredic ran 11.95 in the 100 which is the fastest time by a Sacramento State woman this year and places her fifth in the Big Sky Conference this season. She returned to capture the top spot in the 400-hurdles in a time of 1:00.46 which ranks 10th in school history. Stredic's time is the fastest in the Big Sky this year.
- Zoe Ewell won the 200 and was third in the 100. Ewell had times of 12.09 and 25.17 in her two races.
- Freshman Rionna Wallace was second in both the 100 and 200. Wallace set a PR in the 100 in 12.03, taking nearly a quarter-second off her previous best of 12.25. She ran 25.37 in the 200.
- Four other Hornets set PRs in the 100 comprised of Jessi Barry (12.17), Tamia Ramos (12.48), Audrey McElmurry (12.54) and Jillian Dobbins (12.90).
- Three Sacramento State women had their fastest times in their careers in the 400. Emily Giddens led the trio in 57.17 to place second. Giddens also had a PR in the 200 (25.84). Mia Lawrence finished in third place (57.73) and Theone Divinagracia was fifth in the 400 (59.35).
- Sacramento State accounted for the top six collegiate times in the women's 800. Dominique Abbott finished in second place overall with a PR of 2:13.69. Sarah Collier was one spot back in 2:13.69. Others to set PRs in the race included Viviana Valenton (2:14.81), Sophia Dudley (2:17.60) and Kate Sanders (2:20.77).
- The Hornets swept the top three spots in the 100-hurdles. Ava Fitzgerald led the trio in 13.93 seconds. Kameryn Brown was second in 14.46 and Eliana Coburn completed the group in 14.70.
- The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams each finished in first place.
Men's Track Highlights
- The Hornet men accounted for four of the top six spots in the 100 and five of the top seven in the 200. Xavier Bruce won the 100 in a career best 10.68 seconds which ties him for seventh in the Big Sky this year. Bruce went on to place third in the 200 with a PR of 21.98.
- Nathan Rider was second in the 200 in 21.92 to set a career best for the second consecutive week. His 100 time of 10.72 placed him fourth in the race and also set a PR.
- The only athlete faster than the Hornets in the two sprints was former Sacramento State standout Blaize Holland who won both races in 10.52 and 21.74 while competing unattached.
- Mason Mitchell (10.86) and Jameel McDaniels (11.02) also set PRs in the 100. McDaniels went on to add a career best in the 200 (22.48).
- Khalil Fowles was second in the 400 in 49.43.
- Zachary Winger won the 110-hurdles and 400-hurdles. Winger guided a Sacramento State sweep of the top three spots in the 110H in 14.29 which ranks third in the Big Sky this season. Jack Charlton was second (15.10) and Joshua Braun was third (15.98).
- In the 400H, Winger had a season best time of 54.56.
- The Hornets had the five best times in the 800 led by Jake Slade who won the race in a career best 1:53.79. Jacob Polivka (1:55.53), Cooper Love (1:55.80) and Ryan Martin (1:55.93) also set PRs in the race.
- In the 1500, Aiden Maddison and Kelly Galicia-Thomas each recorded the fastest times of their careers in 4:06.54 and 4:06.98, respectively.
- The men's 4x100 relay team finished first in 41.69.
Women's Field Highlights
- Abby Sheets recorded the win in the javelin behind a career-best throw of 131-08 which ranks eighth in the Big Sky this season.
- Sacramento State had the top three finishers and six of the top seven in the long jump. Jessi Barry set a PR of 19-01.50 to finish in first place. Tamia Ramos was close behind at 19-01.25 and Alexia Croffet was third in 18-08.50.
- Abby Meder finished in second place in the shot put and third in the hammer. Meder's top shot put was 43-04.50 while her hammer throw traveled 152-11.
- Hope Gordon (42-05.50) and Breanna Espinoza (41-08.75) set season bests in the shot put to finish in second and third place, respectively.
- Leah Chavez was third in the pole vault after clearing a season best 10-08.00.
- Breanna Espinoza finished in first place in the discus with a season best of 149-06. Hope Gordon added a PR of 122-00.
- Tamia Ramos had a wind-legal PR of 40-00.50 to record the best collegiate finish in the triple jump and lead a group of five Hornets in the top seven in the event. R'kai Davis also set a career best with an attempt of 39-02.25.
Men's Field Highlights
Note: Results from the men's discus and hammer are not available at this time.
- John Gibbs moved into eighth place in school history with a triple jump of 49-03.00. The distance came on his sixth jump of the day and was his second of at least 49 feet during the day.
- Jack Charlton began the day by winning the javelin with a best of 181-08.
- Eric Nakagawa used a PR of 46-00.00 to place second in the shot put.
- Andrew Lehner finished in second place in the pole vault with a successful attempt at 14-06.00. Joshua Braun set at 13-06.25 for an 8-inch improvement.
- Miles Grant won the high jump and recorded his fourth top-five finish in as many meets this season after clearing 6-08.25. Charlton set his PR at 6-05.00 to finish in third place.
- The Hornets swept the top three spots in the men's discus. John Maka led the trio with a throw of 158-10. Freshmen Kyle Smith (138-01) and Jaden Washington (PR, 133-01) finished second and third.
- Diego Lopez captured the top spot in the men's hammer with a throw of 185-07.
Sacramento State will next compete in a pair of Southern California meets. The Hornets will take part in the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific on Apr. 11-13 and the MT. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Apr. 18-20. The final home meet of the year will be the Causeway Classic Dual against UC Davis on Friday, Apr. 26.
