SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Freshman Ava Fitzgerald tied the sixth fastest time in school history in the 100-hurdles to highlight Sacramento State's performances at the NCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field West First Round.

Fitzgerald ran a career-best 13.74 to place fifth in the sixth heat of the 100H and 36th overall. Her time is the fastest by a freshman in school history and ties Myesha Kirtman's mark which was set in 2002. Fitzgerald also produced the best time by a Sacramento State student-athlete since 2013. Prior to tonight, her previous fastest time was 13.94 in the Causeway Classic Dual against UC Davis.

Alyssa Brewer also competed in the 800 on Thursday night. Brewer was among the leaders of her heat through the opening lap and then pulled ahead with about 300 meters remaining. The graduate student was chased down by the pack with 150 meters left and ended up with a time of 2:12.15 to place 48th. Brewer was making her her fourth career appearance in the 800 at the NCAA West First Round.

On Wednesday night, Blaize Holland concluded his Hornet career in the men's 100. Holland last ran a wind-aided 10.24 in the qualifying round of the Big Sky Outdoor Championships two weeks ago. However, a hamstring injury prevented him from running in the finals of that meet and proved to be problematic again on Wednesday as he pulled up with about 20 yards to go  before finishing in 11.60.

The NCAA West First Round will continue on Friday and Saturday at Hornet Stadium. The top 12 finishers in each event will advance to the NCAA Div. I Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas.
