SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Sacramento State concluded the seven-team Big West Conference Challenge on Sunday at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.
The Hornets dropped matches to a pair of nationally ranked opponents - 5-0 to 12th-ranked Long Beach State, 4-1 to 8th-ranked Hawaii - as well as a 5-0 loss to CSUN.
The Big West Challenge is a two-day tournament that includes all seven Big West teams playing each other at the same site. Sacramento State played three times yesterday, and three times today. The Hornets had been 3-2 prior to the tournament, but could not pull out a win this weekend.
Today was highlighted by a back-and-forth win at No. 2 by

Ellie Tisko over Hawaii's Kylin Loker/Kendall Kaelin, 25-23, 16-21, 28-26. Volkmann and Tisko were playing on the same doubles team for the first time this season.

Kalani Hayes (No. 1) and
Tiyanane Kamba-Griffin/
Carrie Crom (No. 4) were the only Hornet doubles teams to play all three matches today with no changes. Volkmann played every match at No. 2, playing once with
Greta Davis and twice with Tisko.
Ashlynn Archer played all three matches at No. 3, playing twice with Davis and once with Tisko.
Caty Cordano appeared in all five matches at No. 5, playing twice with
Hailey Plugge and once with
Kate Doorn.
Sacramento State is back in action in two weeks when its hosts a two-day tournament at Hornet Beach (April 7-8).
