WOMEN FINISH SECOND, MEN FIFTH AT AIR FORCE LINDEMAN INVITE

USAFA, Colo. — The Sacramento State women's indoor track and field team finished in second place and the men were fifth at the Air Force Lindeman Invitational on Saturday. The Hornet women totaled 96.33 points and trailed only Wichita State (125.33) in the team standings. Sacramento State finished ahead of five other teams in the field. The men's competition was won by Air Force with 158 points. The Hornets amassed 59 over the two days.

Three women qualified for finals on Saturday led by Alyssa Brewer and Sarah Collier who were third and fourth, respectively, in the 400. Brewer ran 47.99 while Collier recorded a PR for the second straight day with a time of 58.48.

True freshman Ava Fitzgerald finished seventh in the 60-hurdles after running 8.74 for her fastest time of the weekend.

The Hornets picked up a huge amount of points in the distance races. Sacramento State had five of the top six finishers in the 3K and four of the top eight in the mile. Dani Gee led the team in both races, winning the 3K with a PR of 11:14.61 and also setting a PR in the mile in 5:287.73 to place fourth. Molly Latincsics was second in the 3K (11:16.45) and sixth in the mile (5:30.94) in her first collegiate indoor meet. Hailey Rutter (11:32.59), Kaleena Narus (11:42.61) and Tia Oliver (11:51.74) completed the scorers for the team in the 3K. Narus (5:43.14) and Rutter (5:47.03) also added points in the mile.

Sacramento State's final points on the track came in the 4x400 relay where Collier, Kacyra Simmons, Asiah Fields and Brewer ran 3:55.39 to place second.

In the field events, Abby Meder followed her school top 10 mark in the weight throw on Friday by finishing second in the shot put with a best of 44-06.25. Freshman Hope Gordon placed fifth in her debut with a long of 43-01.00.

Izzi Leonard and Abby Sheets each scored in the high jump. Leonard placed sixth with a successful attempt at 5-05.00 while Sheets tied for eighth at 5-03.00.

The team counted points from three athletes in the triple jump. Tamia Ramos finished fifth in her first indoor meet with a long of 36-08.50. Audrey McElmurry set a PR at 36-00.75 to place seventh and R'kai Davis was eighth (35-08.50) in her debut.

The men saw freshman Nathan Rider place seventh in the finals of the 400 by running 50.78. That mark was nearly a quarter-second faster than his time of 51.01 on Friday.

The trio of Aiden Maddison, Santiago Ruiz and Jake Slade each scored in the mile and 3K. In the mile, Maddison was fourth with a PR of 4:33.17. He also won the 3K in 9:23.67 in his first race at that distance. Ruiz was sixth in the mile (4:35.98) and second in the 3K (9:27.24) while Slade was seventh in the mile (4:41.86) and third in the 3K (9:50.82).

The combination of Zachary WInger, Khalil Fowlkes, Jonathan Yates and Nautus Moore placed third in the 4x400 relay in 3:22.51.

The team had three scorers in the field events with two setting PRs. John Gibbs was fifth in the triple jump with a best of 46-06.00. Joshua Braun was one spot back with a PR of 46-02.50. Jack Charlton added a PR of 42-08.00 in the shot put to place eighth.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Washington State Invite on Feb. 2-4 in Spokane, Wash.
