USAFA, Colo. — Abby Meder set a school top 10 mark in the weight throw to lead a group of 18 personal bests by members of the Sacramento State track and field teams at the Air Force Lindeman Invitational on Friday afternoon. The men's and women's teams also had 18 collegiate debuts during the opening day of the meet.
Meder finished third in the weight throw with a best of 57-05.50 (17.51m). That distance was nearly two feet beyond her PR of 55-05.75 which was set at the Big Sky Championships last season in her final event of the year.
Breanna Espinoza also had a significant PR as she threw 48-06.00 to top her previous best of 40-06.25.
The Hornet women recorded three PRs in the long jump and also saw the debut of three others.
Abby Sheets led the team with a leap of 17-11.50 for a 9.5 inch improvement.
Audrey McElmurry bettered her best by six inches to finish at 17-06.00.
Eliana Coburn set PRs in the long jump and 60-hurdles. Coburn jumped 16-08.75 which destroyed her previous long of 15-05.00. She finished the 60-hurdles in 8.93 which topped her best of 9.25.
Sacramento State had three women advance to event finals on Saturday as
Alyssa Brewer and
Sarah Collier moved on in the 400 and
Ava Fitzgerald in the 60-hurdles. Brewer, who was competing for the first time at Sacramento State, ran 57.65 for the third best time in the qualifying round. Collier was seventh on Friday with a career best of 59.84. Fitzgerald, a true freshman, ran 8.77 in her first collegiate race to earn a spot in the finals.
Kameryn Brown had the other PR for the women by running the 60-hurdles in 9.01.
In the men's events,
Miles Grant finished sixth in the high jump after clearing 6-08.75. The team saw all four of its long jumpers set PRs.
Mason Mitchell led the way at 23-00.00 to place fourth overall and beat his PR by 6.5 inches.
John Gibbs was eighth at 22-03.00.
Joshua Braun (20-10.00) and
Jack Charlton (20-01.50) completed the quartet.
Freshman
Nathan Rider advanced to the final of the 400 after running 51.01 in his first collegiate race.
Blaize Holland led the team in the 60 (7.00) and 200 (22.30).
Jonathan Yates set a PR in the 60 in 7.24 for a .07 seconds improvement. In the 200,
Zachary Winger (22.36),
Nautus Moore (22.53) and Yates (22.73) all set personal bests.
The meet will conclude on Saturday.
