Box Score GREELEY, Colo. – Sacramento State played its first Big Sky Conference match of the season on Saturday and defeated the Northern Colorado Bears, 5-2, in Greeley. Five Hornets won in singles to clinch the victory for Sacramento State.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 2-9 overall and 1-0 in Big Sky play. Northern Colorado is also now 2-9, though the Bears are 0-2 in league.
Saturday's match was Sacramento State's second in as many days following Friday's loss at Air Force. The Hornets bounced back with a strong 5-2 win against Big Sky foe Northern Colorado.
The Hornets opened Saturday's action by dropping the doubles point as the Bears took two of three doubles matches. Sacramento State responded though winning each of the first two singles matches to take a 2-1 lead over Northern Colorado.
"We didn't start out our strongest in doubles" said head coach Cami Hubbs after the match. "But we rallied and played some really quality singles. A great start to get a win in our first conference match."
Paige Alter won Sacramento State its first point, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, at the number three position. She was followed by fellow freshman Grace Dodd, who also won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, at number six.
Northern Colorado pulled even with a win at number five, but Sacramento State picked up each of the remaining three singles matches to close out the afternoon.
Tsveti Yotova picked up a win at number four singles, 6-4, 6-0, to put the Hornets ahead 3-2.
Junior Jenna Dorian clinched the match for Sacramento State, also winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, at the number one singles position. She was followed by senior Ege Tomey, who closed out the match with a hard-earned 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 win at number two.

Saturday's match was the second of two Colorado contests for Sacramento State over the last two days. They will remain on the road for their next match, a March. 15 date with Big Sky opponent Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, Ariz.
