NO. 66 WOMEN’S TENNIS DOWNS EAGLES FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN

CHENEY, Wash. -- The No. 66 Sacramento State women's tennis team swept doubles for the the second straight dual and then won three of the first four singles matches on the day to hand host Eastern Washington a 5-2 defeat on Friday afternoon at Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash.

The victory was the sixth straight for the Hornets, who improved to 12-4 overall and remained unbeaten in Big Sky Conference play at 4-0. The Eagles fell to 8-5 overall and 2-1 in league play with the loss.

Friday's sweep of the doubles matches marked only the third time that Sacramento State has emerged victorious in all thee contests with the duo of Lou Baudouin and Isabella Temenugov providing the clinching point with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot.

In singles, Baudouin was the first off at No. 2, making quick work of EWU's Anait Arutiunian in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, before the Eagles were able to break up the shutout with a straight-set win at the No. 3 spot.

Reese Walker answered with a victory at the top spot in the lineup, bouncing back from a first-set loss to post a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3, win over Leandra Nizetic before Cami Maldonado Gutierrez clinched the overall dual victory with a three-set, come-from-behind win over Veronika Gayevyk at No. 4 by the scores of 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3.

Temenugov then provided the final point of the day for the Hornets, defeating Aneliss Zamfirescu in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 11-9.

Sacramento State closes out its trip to the Pacific Northwest on Sunday morning at 10 a.m., taking on Idaho before playing four of its final five duals at home to close out the regular season.
