STREAK HALTED AS WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS AT IDAHO

MOSCOW, Idaho -- The No. 66 Sacramento State women's tennis team swept the doubles point for the third consecutive contest, but the Hornets couldn't come through with the clincher in singles, falling to host Idaho by a 4-3 score on Sunday morning in Moscow, Idaho.

In a battle of early Big Sky Conference leaders, Sacramento State watched its six-match winning streak come to an end as it fell to 12-5 overall while the Vandals improved to 10-7 overall. Both are now 4-1 in Big Sky play following Sunday's result.

Cami Maldonado Gutierrez and Reese Walker providing the clinching point in doubles play at the No. 3 position as the Hornets opened with a dominating 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot by Irene Riva and Palina Saulevich, before identical 6-3 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.

The Vandals responded with quick wins at No. 4 and No. 1 in singles before a win by Riva at No. 3 tied things up again with a 6-4, 6-4, win over Hanna Koprowska. Lou Baudouin then put Sacramento State ahead with a three-set victory over Naomi Schraeder, dropping the first set 6-2 before not allowing another point over the final two sets with identical 6-0 shutouts.

With its back against the wall, Idaho came up clutch in the final two singles matches, winning in straight sets at No. 6 before posting a come-from-behind three-set win at No. 5 to clinch the contest.

Sacramento State plays four of its final five duals at home to close the regular season beginning next week with Big Sky contests against Weber State on Saturday (March 28) and Idaho State on Sunday (March 29). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
