WOMEN’S TENNIS SWEEPS WEEKEND WITH 6-1 VICTORY

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The No. 74 Sacramento State women's tennis team completed a sweep of their Big Sky Conference home weekend on Sunday afternoon, defeating Idaho State by a 6-1 score at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex.

Fresh off a shutout of Weber State on Saturday, the Hornets improved to 13-5 overall and 5-1 in league play with the win over the Bengals on Sunday and posted their 16th consecutive home win dating back to last year. Idaho State, which took its lone point with a three-set win at No. 6, fell to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in league, suffering its third-straight defeat.

Sacramento State battled to take a 1-0 lead in the match in doubles as the tandem of Lou Baudouin and Emilija Pranyte were the first off the courts with a 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot. However, it came down to the competition at the No. 1 spot in the lineup as the duo of Irene Riva and Palina Saulevich needed a tiebreaker to defeat Stefanya Shalakhova and Veronika Zarovna, 7-6 (3), to clinch the point.

The Hornets then made quick work of the Bengals in singles play, taking home straight-set singles victories by Cami Maldonado Gutierrez, Saulevich, and Pranyte at the No. 3, 5, and 4 spots in the lineup, respectively. Baudoin rebounded from a first-set loss to win in three at the No. 1 spot, while Riva battled back from dropping a second-set tiebreaker to win, 10-4, in the third for her point.

Baudouin has now won eight straight while improving to 14-2 on the year overall, winning for the first time at the No. 1 spot in the lineup this season. Maldonado Gutierrez also won her 14th match of the season with her second straight triumph, winning for the first time at the No. 3 position.

Meanwhile, the doubles pairing of Riva and Saulevich improved to 6-0 overall — all at the No. 1 position, while the tandems of Baudouin and Pranyte won their fourth straight match as a duo, improving to 8-2 on the season.

Sacramento State takes a break until April 7 when they host Santa Clara at 1 p.m. in its penultimate non-conference dual of the spring.
