STOCKTON, Calif. — Sacramento State split a pair of beach volleyball matches at the UOP tournament, defeating host Pacific, 3-2, before falling to San Jose State, 4-1.
The Hornets traveled to Stockton for both matches. This is the second matchup between the Hornets and Spartans within the span of three days.
With wins from the No.1 team of Sarah Davis and Ashtin Olin, the No. 4 team of Paige Calvin and Sarah Falk, and the No. 5 team of Michelle Taynton and Kayla Subbert, it gave the Hornets the 3-2 dual score to beat the Tigers.
In the Hornets' 4-1 loss against San Jose State, the No.1 team of Davis and Olin won their first set (23-21) but had to forfeit due to injury. The only pair to win was the No.5 team of Subbert and Taynton (18-21 21-9 15-11 ). The No.3 team of Claudia Wilson and Paige Swinney nearly won, but lost in the third set. Sacramento State dropped the other four matches in straight sets.
With the split, the Hornets moved their record to 1-2 on the young season while San Jose State is 7-1 and Pacific is 1-1.
The Hornets' No. 5 team of Subbert and Taynton won both of their matches today, getting a straight-set win against Pacific, and a three-set victory against San Jose State.
