SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State cross country teams closed their season at the NCAA Div. I West Regional on Friday afternoon at Haggin Oaks Golf Course. The Hornet women were led by Amy Quinones and finished in 20th place. The men were guided by Ross Walker and finished 25th.
The top two teams in each race earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wisc. The women's team title was claimed by Oregon who finished with 44 points. Boise State took the second spot with a total of 49. Portland (77) and Washington (82) were the top two finishers in the men's race. The remaining teams will await their fate as the committee will accept 13 more at-large teams.
Quinones led the team in every meet over her final three seasons. The senior ran 21:13.9 over the 6K course to finish 69th and left her 65 seconds behind Boise State's Allie Ostrander who was the individual winner. Rachel Victor was second on the team and placed 93rd overall in 21:33.1. Denise Reis ran 21:55.6 to finish 123rd, Cagnei Duncan crossed in 22:23.7 to place 158th and Rosemary David completed the scorers in 22:26.8 to finish 164th.
Walker ran 32:02.6 over the men's 10K course to finish in 121st place. The team was without the services of Andres Sandoval who had recorded the fastest times in all but one meet this year due to an injury. Tristen Thomson and Shane Marshall were both on the heels of Walker, finishing within four seconds. Thomson ran 32:04.9 and Marshall had a time of 32:06.2 to place 124th and 125th, respectively. Santiago Ruis recorded a time of 32:35.1 to place 145th and Anthony Lemus was 202nd in 34:34.2
