CROSS COUNTRY TO RUN AT SANTA CLARA BRONCO INVITATIONAL ON SATURDAY

Hornets remain in NorCal for final tuneup before Big Sky Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's and women's cross country teams will make their annual trek to the Bay Area for the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Saturday. The Hornets have competed at the meet, which is held at Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, Calif., continuously since 2006. The men's 8K race will begin at 8:45 a.m. and the women's 6K race will follow 45 minutes later.

The meet will be the final event for the Hornets prior to the Big Sky Championships which will take place on Nov. 1 in Bozeman, Mont.

Sacramento State has entered 10 women and eight men into the races. The Hornet women have been led by Tia Oliver in two of the three races this season. Most recently, Oliver ran a season-best 20:48.9 to finish in 13th place at the UCR Invitational.

The men have had the same top three finishers in all three races. The team has been led by Ryan Martin in every race. Martin has lowered his time each race with a best of 24:13.4. Brandon Moreno has been second and Koby Sperandeo has been third in each race.

This year will mark the 20th time that Sacramento State has competed at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational since 1988. Last season, the women finished in eighth place and were led by Oliver who ran 21:07.8 to place 20th overall. The men's team was paced by Martin who also placed 20th with an 8K time of 24:39.2. The Hornet men finished 11th in the team standings.

Sacramento State has seen three top-five finishes from its female athletes at the meet, including a win by Chloe Berlioux in 2015. The Hornet men have also been victorious as Erik Mencarini finished first in 1999 in 25:57.7.
