WOMEN PLACE SIXTH; MARTIN LEADS MEN AT BIG SKY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Ryan Martin finished in 16th place overall and the Sacramento State women took sixth place in the team standings at the Big Sky Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Montana State's Bridger Cross Country Course.

The women were on the course first and had four runners finish among the top 50. Anna Harmon led the team with a time of 17:45.7 which was the 12th fastest time by a Hornet woman at the championship. Tia Oliver ranked second on the team in 17:53.8 to place 34th overall. Marina Lipary was one spot back Oliver in 17:54.1 and the team also counted times from Sophia Dudley (45th, 18:11.5) and Kate Sanders (56th, 18:25.8).

Northern Arizona accounted for the top four finishers and five of the top six to easily win the team title. The Lumberjacks totaled 16 points with Weber State coming in second with 80. Hayley Burns was the overall winner 16:05.7. In the men's race, Ryan Martin completed the 8K race in 24:52.50 to finish in 16th place. Martin's time was the third-highest in school history at the meet and the fastest since Andres Sandoval set the school record of 24:17.6 in 2018. His placement was also the seventh-highest finish by a Hornet at the Big Sky Championship.

Due to injuries, the Hornet men were limited to just four other runners in the race. Thomas Rasner finished second on the team in 27:32.8 to place 66th. Saul Orozco took 68th place in 27:40.1 in his first meet of the year. Nathan Diaz (75th, 27:57.2) and Noah Mikusevich (82nd, 29:20.9) rounded out the lineup. NAU also claimed the men's team title. The Lumberjacks were led by Colin Sahlman who won the race in 23:41.3 and was one of six top-10 finishers for the team.

Sacramento State will next compete at the NCAA West Regional on Friday, Nov. 14. The meet will take place at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento and will be the one home meet for the team this season.
