SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- On the first day of a two-day, four-team sand volleyball tournament, Sacramento State dropped a pair of matches to Pacific (4-1) and Saint Mary's (3-2) on Saturday afternoon at the Sacramento Softball Complex.
The four teams competing include the Hornets, Pacific, Saint Mary's and Washington. In the tournament's other matchups today, Washington beat both Saint Mary's (3-2) and Pacific (4-1). The final match of the tourney will take place tomorrow at 11 a.m., and feature Sacramento State facing Washington.
In the Hornets' loss to Saint Mary's, Sacramento State got wins from the doubles teams of Lauren Aikels/Lauren Kissell (21-17, 21-18 at No. 4), and Brigitte Murdock/Kennedy Kurtz (22-20, 21-12 at No. 5). Every matchup against Saint Mary's went two sets.
In the team's loss to Pacific, the doubles team of Shannon Boyle and Lexie Skalbeck was victorious at No. 3 by an 8-21, 21-17, 17-15 score.
Sacramento State is currently three matches into an 11-match homestand to close the season. The homestand lasts from March 14-April 5.
