SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Heading into the final weekend of meets before the Big Sky Indoor Championships, the Sacramento State track and field teams will split its squad between a pair of competitions. The majority of the Hornets' throwers and distance runners will compete at the Husky Classic in Seattle while the sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers will head to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Don Kirby Invitational. Both meets will take place on Friday and Saturday.
Â
Sacramento State student-athletes recorded several impressive performances last weekend at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev. The Hornets recorded nine school top 10s at the meet, including
Tamia Ramos tying the program record in the long jump and
Ava Fitzgerald running the second-fastest 60-hurdles time by a Hornet.
Â
The team is looking to recreate its success in Seattle from earlier this season. Sacramento State will have the majority of its entrants in the 800 and mile for both the men and the women. On Friday,
Tia Oliver will run the 3K and
Hope Gordon will take part in the women's weight throw. All other action for the team will come on Saturday. The Dempsey Indoor facility has been home to several of the team's school records in distance races and draws some of the top talent in the world. This week's meet will include Olympians Nico Young and Juliette Whittaker.
Â
The Hornets will be appearing in Albuquerque, N.M., for the eighth time in the last nine years. All but one of the team's entries in the running events will take place in races ranging from 60m-400m. Sacramento State will also have a strong contingent in the high jump, long jump and triple jump.
