TRACK & FIELD SHINES AT FOUR MEETS

Hornets combined to set 10 school top 10s

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field team spread itself over four meets in two states on Friday. The majority of the team was split between three Bay Area meets while a group of sprinters headed to Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays.
 
Between the meets, the team set seven school top 10 marks.
 
TEXAS RELAYS RECAP
  • Syniah Beverley won the U/C Division 100-hurdles with a time of 13.73. Beverley's mark moved her into seventh place in school history and took .42 seconds off her previous career best. Her time also moved her into 52nd in NCAA Div. I this season.
  • Victoria Chatter placed eighth in the U/C Division 100 meters. Chatter recorded a wind-aided time of 11.46 seconds which left her just a tenth of a second off the lead.
  • Myles McFarland moved into sixth place in school history in the 110-hurdles with a time of 13.98. McFarland placed 15th overall and produced the second-fastest time by a Hornet in the last 10 years.
 
BRUTUS HAMILTON MULTI RECAP
  • Freshman Merle Weber finishes in first place and Jessi Barry placed third in the heptathlon. Weber, totaled 5,227 points which ranks fourth in school history and is the highest mark by a Hornet since 2017. She entered the day in first place and produced marks of 18-02.50 in the long jump, 121-09 in the javelin and 2:24.15 in the 800. Overall, she set PRs in all seven events.
  • Barry, who was competing in her first collegiate heptathlon, amassed 4,811 points which landed just outside the school top 10. Barry set PRs in four events including the javelin (87-06) and 800 (2:35.96) during the final day. They also had a long jump of 17-08.00.
  • In the decathlon, Blake Gross and Brock Gross each moved into the top 10 in their first decathlon with the Hornets. Blake finished in third place overall with 6,718 points which moved him into seventh place in school history. Brock Gross was one spot back in the standings and the record book with 6,706 points.
  • Both were helped by strong finishes in the 1500 where Blake was second and Brock third. During the day, Blake had marks of 15.77 in the 110H, 100-05 in the discus, 13-09.25 in the pole vault, 145-03 in the javelin before running 4:34.23 in the 1500.
  • Brock completed the 110H in 15.31, had a discus throw of 110-11, cleared 12-09.50 in the pole vault, threw the javelin 144-08 and ran 4:36.96.
  • Cole Oliver was 12th in the decathlon with 6,007 points while Blake DaQuino was 15th with 4,944. DaQuino did lead the field with a discus throw of 132-09.
 
MIKE FANELLI DISTANCE CLASSIC RECAP
  • Brandon Moreno posted the fastest time by a collegiate athlete in the meet by running 3:46.84 in the men's 1500. Moreno placed second in the race behind unattached runner Nathan Stark (3:46.56). Moreno's time was just shy of his own school record of 3:46.15. Cooper Love ranked second on the team in the race with a PR of 3:54.69.
  • Anna Harmon moved into eighth place in the 5K with a time of 16:56.27 which took 15.99 seconds off her previous best. Meg Moyer also PR'd in the 5K with a time of 18:01.93.
  • Dominique Abbott let a trio of PRs for the Hornets in the 1500. Abbott ran 4:32.75 to take nearly two seconds off her previous low. Also setting personal bests were Sophia Dudley (4:34.01) and Dakota Gibson (4:38.52).
 
STANFORD INVITATIONAL RECAP
  • Nathan Rider improved his standing in program history by running 20.98 to place second at the meet and fifth all-time at Sacramento State. Rider topped his previous best of 21.61 from earlier this season and recorded the fastest time by a Hornet since 2017. Jonas Petty also set a PR in the race in 21.31.
  • Gianni Miles advanced to the finals of the men's 100 after running 10.54 in the qualifying round to rank second. Miles time came with a wind of 2.2 meters per second.
  • Tim Edwards, Jr., ran 47.17 in the 400 for the second-consecutive weekend. Edwards, Jr. already ranks sixth in program history. Ife Orekoya also finished in the top 10 of the 400 by placing ninth in 47.75.
  • Breija Stredic was 10th in the women's 400-hurdles. Stredic had a time of 1:00.00.
