SPOKANE, Wash. — The Sacramento State track and field teams scored points in five events, advanced nine athletes into event finals and set seven school top 10 marks, including a record, during the second day of the Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships at The Podium.
The day began with
Jack Charlton placing fourth and
John Gibbs fifth in the heptathlon to combine for nine team points. Charlton scored 4,830 points in the seven events while Gibbs had 4,562 points in his first collegiate multi competition. Charlton led all heptathletes with a time of 8.33 in the hurdles, cleared 11-08.00 in the pole vault to tie his PR and then set a career best in the 1000 meters in 3:00.90. Gibbs made a strong move up the standings with a pole vault of 14-11.50 which was the second best in the field. He ran the 60-hurdles and the 1000 meters for the first time in his career.
The women's team advanced two athletes into the finals of the 60-hurdles in the first event of the main program.

Kameryn Brown was sixth in the round in 8.74 seconds.
Zoe Ewell had the highlight of the day for the Hornet women, setting the school record in the 60-meter dash in 7.50 to qualify fifth. Ewell's time breaks the record of 7.52 which was set by Shilah Bedingfield in 2020 and matched by

Mia Lawrence punched her ticket to the 800 final after running 2:11.37. That time places her seventh in school history and was 1.31 seconds faster than her previous best.
The women wrapped up the night with the distance medley relay where the team of
Ashley Busienei,
Emily Giddens, Lawrence and
Dani Gee ran 12:01.87 to finish in seventh place and score two team points. Sacramento State was competing in the DMR for the first time this season and the quartet produced the seventh-fastest time in school history.
In the women's field events,
Tamia Ramos earned all-Big Sky honors after placing second in the long jump. Ramos had a best of 19-01.50 on her third attempt which put her in the lead at the time. She remained in first place until Eastern Washington's Caitlin Simmons uncorked a jump of 19-09.75 during the fifth round.
Abby Meder concluded the scorers for the women, earned three points by placing sixth in the shot put. Meder had a season best put of 44-10.25 on her final attempt. That distance was 11.5 inches beyond her previous best in the competition.
The Hornet men also had a quick start to the day, advancing a pair of athletes in the 60-hurdles. Freshman
