TRACK & FIELD COMPLETES OPENING WEEKEND AT MARK COLLIGAN MEMORIAL

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Sacramento State track and field teams continued their strong starts to the 2024 season at the Mark Colligan Memorial on Saturday.

Host Nebraska claimed both team titles with the Cornhusker men scoring 170 points and the women providing 177.5. The Hornets finished fifth in both team standings.

Sacramento State will next compete at the UW Invitational on Friday, Jan. 26, in Seattle.

WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jessi Barry finished in third place in the 60-meter dash. Barry opened her day with a time of 7.22 in the qualifying round and followed by running 7.66. They had four times of 7.22 or better during the weekend.
  • Freshman Breija Stredic placed fifth in the 400 in 58.39.
  • Mia Lawrence had a substantial improvement on her PR in the 800 to help her to a third-place finish. Lawrence ran 2:14.50 to take nearly three seconds off her previous best of 2:18.47.
MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sacramento State had five of the top 10 finishers in the 400 led by Malachi Cox who was second overall in 49.57. Irven Hill (6th, 50.76), Nautus Moore (8th, 50.93), Nathan Rider (9th, 50.99) and Zachary Winger (10th, 51.39) also landed in the top 10.
  • Winger and freshman Stephen Dahdouh followed top 10 showings in the 60-hurdles on Friday by placing fifth and sixth on Saturday. Both had their fastest times during the day in the qualifying rounds where Winger ran 8.19 and Dahdouh had a time of 8.22.
  • Dahdouh also finished in the top 10 by placing ninth in the 200 in 22.61.
WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Eliana Coburn set a PR to place fifth in the high jump. Coburn cleared 5-05.00 which was a slight improvement over her high of 5-04.25.
  • Barry was sixth in the long jump with a best of 17-10.25.
  • Alexia Croffet led the team and placed sixth overall in the triple jump. Croffet leaped 38-07.75 on her sixth attempt of the day. She also had three other jumps of at least 38 feet. Audrey McElmurry finished ninth overall at 37-07.25 and Tamia Ramos had a PR of 36-10.50 to place 10th.
MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Miles Grant matched his career best to place third in the high jump. Grant had a successful attempt at 6-09.75 which ties him for fifth place in school history.
  • Mason Mitchell placed seventh in the long jump with a best of 22-05.75 on his third attempt. Mitchell had three jumps of over 22 feet during the day.
  • John Gibbs finished sixth in the triple jump with a long of 46-10.25. Gibbs had five legal jumps with all over 46 feet.
  • The team picked up two scorers in the shot put with freshmen Eric Nakagawa placing seventh and Leland Godfrey finishing eighth. Nakagawa had a best of 45-01.75 while Godfrey recorded a mark of 44-09.00.
