SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Five Sacramento State runners set personal bests in the 1500 during the second day of the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on Friday at San Francisco State.
The men's 1500 featured 12 heats and 150 entries.
Aiden Maddison paced Sacramento State with a time of 3:53.66 to finish in 11th place. He took 3.12 seconds off his previous career best and was just four seconds off of cracking the top 10 in school history. Maddison's time is also the ninth fastest in the Big Sky Conference this season.
Ruben Garcia and
Santiago Ruiz also added career bests in the event. Garcia ran 3:59.84 to finish 39th while Ruiz posted a time of 4:04.65 to place 51st.
Dani Gee guided Sacramento State in a huge field in the women's 1500 which had 13 heats and 163 entries. Gee ran 4:43.26 (53rd place) which was nearly 15 seconds faster than her previous best of 4:58.08 which came in 2021.
Freshman
Molly Latincsics was just two positions behind Gee with a time of 4:44.51 in her first collegiate 1500.
Viviana Valenton ranked third on the team (65th overall) in 4:45.67 to set a season best.
Sacramento State also had freshman
Ava Fitzgerald compete in the 100-hurdles at the Texas Relays. Fitzgerald had a wind-aided time of 14.46 to place 44th.
Results from Thursday's Jack Albiani Invitational at Modesto JC were also posted on Friday.
John Maka finished first in the men's discus (159-00) and was third in the men's hammer (162-08).
In the women's throws, the Hornets swept the top spots in the shot put, discus and hammer. Freshman
Hope Gordon won the shot put with a best of 42-07.00.
Breanna Espinoza was first in the discus at 140-07 and was third in the hammer (149-09).
Abby Meder won the hammer with a PR of 162-07 and was second in the shot put (40-07.75) and discus (139-02).
Sacramento State will complete the weekend on Saturday at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic with the sprinters and jumpers seeing action.
