TRACK AND FIELD ADDS THREE TOP 10S IN FINAL DAY OF WASHINGTON STATE INVITE

Gibbs, Fitzgerald and Winger lead 17 career bests during the day

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Sacramento State indoor track and field teams combined for three school top 10 marks and 17 personal bests during the final day of the Washington State Invite on Saturday at The Podium.

Freshman Ava Fitzgerald had the first top 10 of the day for the team after she ran 8.61 in the semifinals of the women's 60-hurdles. That time places her in a four-way tie for sixth place in school history and is the fastest by a Hornet since Emilia Del Hoyo ran the exact mark in 2019. Fitzgerald advanced to the finals where she placed seventh with a time of 8.71.

In the men's 60-hurdles, Zachary Winger tied for the 10th fastest mark all-time by a Hornet after running 8.26 in the semifinals. He became the first person to crack the school top 10 in the event since 2018 when Andre Lindsey and Austin Tinsley each found their way onto the list. Winger finished in sixth place in the meet after running 8.28 in the finals.

John Gibbs provided the final top 10 mark of the day as he triple jumped 48-11.00 (14.91m) to move into sixth place in the Hornet record book and finish fifth at the meet. The leap was 28.25 inches beyond his previous indoor best and was the longest by a Sacramento State student-athlete since Mohamed Abdullah went 49-11.25 in 2018.

Gibbs also landed in the top five in the meet in the pole vault. He and Andrew Lehner both set career bests in the event as each cleared 15-00.25. Lehner tied for second overall based on attempts while Gibbs was fourth. Lehner's mark was seven inches over his previous best.

The Hornet men also had two PRs in the 60-hurdles on top of Winger's. Jack Charlton ran shaved 11-hundredths off his best to finish 11th in 8.45 seconds and Joshua Braun ran 9.10. All four men in the 400 set career bests led by Nautus Moore who ran 49.07 to place ninth.

The women picked up an additional pair of PRs in the 60-hurdles with Tia Outlaw and Kameryn Brown. Outlaw placed 11th at the meet in 8.73 seconds while Brown was 17th in 8.92 to break 9 seconds for the first time in her career.

All four Hornet entries in the women's 60-meter dash set career bests. Kassidy Schroth led the group with a time of 7.88 while Jessi Barry (7.94), Outlaw (7.98) and Brown (8.13) were close behind.

In the distance races, Kaleena Narus ran 5:17.48 to lead the team and take nearly 30 seconds off her previous best of 5:43.14. All three Sacramento State runners in the 3K set PRs. Molly Latincsics placed 10th in the meet in 10:11.30 which was 65 seconds better than her previous best. Dani Gee finished in 14th place in 10:19.03 (a 55-second improvement) and Oliver ran 10:29.84 (a 13-second improvement).

In the women's field events, Alexia Croffet was ninth in her first triple jump of the year with a best of 37-03.75. Abby Meder recorded another top 10 finish in top of her eighth-place effort in the weight throw on Friday as she was 10th in the shot put at 44-07.50.

Sacramento State will next compete at the New Mexico Don Kirby Invitational on Feb. 10-11 in Albuquerque, N.M.
