FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Sacramento State senior Cagnei Duncan placed 39th in the women's 5K at the NCAA West Preliminary on Saturday night in what was the final race of her record breaking collegiate career. Duncan ran 17:08.46 in the race which was won by Colorado's Abby Nichols in 15:49.51.
The Bakersfield, Calif., native leaves Sacramento State as the school record holder in the 5K after running 16:11.24 at the Bryan Clay Invitational earlier this year. She is also eighth in program history in the 1500 in 4:26.90. Indoors, Duncan set the school record in the 5K at 16:39.27 and ran the fourth fastest 3K by a Hornet woman with a time of 9:57.17. She also remained in 10th place all time at Sacramento State in the mile in 4:59.70.
Duncan completed a trio of Hornets who were competing at the NCAA West Preliminary. Evan Stork advanced to the NCAA Div. I Outdoor Championships after placing 11th in the men's hammer on Wednesday. Shantel Nnaji placed 45th in the women's hammer on Thursday.
