TRACK & FIELD SWEEPS TEAM TITLES AT CAUSEWAY TRACK CLASSIC

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's and women's track and field teams easily cruised to team titles over UC Davis in the annual Causeway Track Classic on Friday night at Hornet Stadium. The Hornet women defeated the Aggies, 106-81, while the men recorded a 95-79 victory.

Sacramento State won the women's competition for the third consecutive year and now leads the all-time series 9-6-1. The Hornet men pushed their edge to 11-4-1.

The women won 12 event titles and swept the running events with the exception of the 5K. The men added nine event titles with seven coming in the field events. The Hornet women also set four school top 10 marks.

Sacramento State will conclude its season at the Big Sky Championships in Pocatello, Idaho on May 11-14.

WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jayde Charlton finished first in the the 100 and 200. Charlton posted a season best time of 11.99 in the 100 and won the 200 in 24.35 which easily surpassed her previous best of 24.87.
  • Daysha Ford moved into seventh place in school history in the 400 with a time of 54.85 which was over three seconds faster than her prior best. Ford was also second in the 200 with a PR of 24.42 which left her just a fraction of a second outside of the top 10.
  • LaTrouchka Duke also cracked the top 10 in the 400. Competing in the event for the first time this season and just the second time in her career, Duke ran 55.14 in the event to place second overall and move into ninth place in school history.
  • Cagnei Duncan led a 1-2 sweep of the 1500 for the Hornets. Duncan ran 4:39.39 which placed her over six seconds ahead of Viviana Valenton who was second in 4:45.98.
  • Sacramento State also captured both hurdle events behind wins from Eliana Coburn in the 100H (wind-aided 14.54) and Kameryn Brown in the 400H (career-best 1:07.47). Brown was also second in the 100-hurdles after running 14.61.
  • The Hornets' 4x100 relay team of Gianna Scruggs, Ford, Charlton and Duke recorded the fastest time in the Big Sky Conference this season and moved into sixth place in school history after running 45.76.
  • The women wrapped up the meet with a win in the 4x400 behind a time of 3:56.28 from Sarah Collier, Duke, Scruggs and Ford.

MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Blaize Holland edged his way to the title in the 100. Holland ran a wind-aided 10.54 which left him just one-hundredth of a second ahead of the second-place finisher.
  • Nautus Moore set a carer best in the 400 by running 48.24 to place second. The time was a half-second improvement. Jonathan Yates took over two seconds off his career best by running 51.60.
  • Jack Charlton finished first in the 110-hurdles with a time of 15.45 to set a career best.
  • The 4x100 relay team of DeVonn Johnson, Holland, Moore and Jabari Reynolds set a season best of 40.97.

WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Izzi Leonard surpassed her PR by three inches to place second in the high jump with a best of 5-06.00.
  • Kasee Aczon won the long jump with a wind-aided jump of 17-08.75. Alexus Surnip was second with a personal best of 17-04.25.
  • Alexia Croffet set her season best in the triple jump at 38-10.25 to place second.
  • Abby Meder won the discus with a career best throw of 145-02 and was second in the shot put (45-03.75).
  • Erin Whelan jumped from 10th to sixth in school history in the hammer with a long of 179-08. Whelan also set a career best in the discus throw at 123-03.
  • Breanna Espinoza also had a pair of career bests throwing the discus 140-10 (a four-foot improvement) and the hammer 152-09 for a 6-foot, 8-inch betterment.

MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Miles Grant finished first in the high jump after clearing 6-06.75 to win the event by four inches.
  • John Gibbs claimed the top spot in the pole vault with a successful attempt at 15-01.00 to set his PR. Gibbs also won the triple jump at 47-09.75.
  • Mason Mitchell was first in the long jump and tied his career best of 22-10.00.
  • Sawyer Howard finished first in the shot put at 53-08.25. Howard also destroyed his career best in the discus with a throw of 140-00 which was 12-feet, 7-inches farther than his previous best.
  • Evan Stork provided the team's first win of the day as he won the hammer by over 38 feet with a long of 211-02.
  • Jack Charlton added to his victory total with a javelin throw of 186-01 to win the event. That throw was nearly five feet longer than his previous best this year.
