TRACK & FIELD STARTS STRONG AT THE DON KIRBY ELITE INVITATIONAL

ALBUQUERQUE — The Sacramento State indoor track and field teams began the Don Kirby Elite Invitational by setting five school top 10 marks and recording 21 season bests on Friday.

The meet continues on Saturday beginning at 7:30 a.m. PT.

Men's Track Highlights

  • Jabari Reynolds made an immediate impact in his 2022 indoor debut. Reynolds set career bests in both the 200 and 400 and moved up in the school top 10 in both both events. He finished third in the 400 with a time of 48.37 which now places him in a tie for seventh place in school history and is the fastest on the team this year. He was 14th in the seeded 200 by running 21.79. That mark ties him with teammate Blaize Holland for the fastest by a Hornet this season and ties him for fifth in program history.
  • Devonn Johnson set a PR in the 200 with a time of 22.33.

Women's Track Highlights

  • LaTrouchka Duke imrproved her career best in the 200 to 24.80. That time moved her up one spot to ninth place school indoor history.
  • Duke led a group of five runners in the race who all set career highs. The other Hornets included Daysha Ford (25.44), Gianna Scruggs (25.95), Jaliah Brice Moore (26.01) and Kameryn Brown (26.41).
  • A week after setting the school record in the 5K, Cagnei Duncan set a personal best in the 3K. Duncan ran 10:10.10 to place sixth in the race and topped her previous best of 10:11.97.
  • In the 400, Mia Lawrence led a group of four Sacramento State athletes who set career bests. Lawrence ran 58.91, Daysha Ford 59.33; Sarah Collier 1:00.79 and Jaliah Brice Moore 1:01.42.

Men's Field Highlights

  • Evan Stork threw a career best 63-05.00 in the weight throw which jumped him to third place in school history and placed him fourth in the meet.
  • John Maka and George Harris also set PRs in the weight throw. Maka threw 59-01.25, finished 10th in the meet, and is now ninth all-time at Sacramento State. Harris had a best of 56-02.50 which was 30 inches beyond his previous long.
  • Fershman Mason Mitchell had nearly a two-and-a-half foot improvement in the long jump with a best of 22-05.25. Mitchell's previous long was 20-00.50.

Women's Field Highlights

  • Shantel Nnaji placed eighth in the weight throw with a season best of 58-01.75. Erin Whelan tied her season best in the same event with a toss of 52-05.25.
