MADDISON, LATINCSICS GUIDE CROSS COUNTRY AT BRONCO INVITATIONAL

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Aiden Maddison and Molly Latincsics had the fastest times for the Sacramento State men's and women's cross country teams, respectively, at the Santa Clara Broncos Invitational on Saturday at Baylands Park. The Hornet men finished in 21st place and the women ended in 19th.

Maddison ran 24:47.9 over the 8K course to place 80th overall. His time was nearly six seconds ahead of Ruben Garcia who ranked second on the team with a time of 24:53.5. The team also counted times from Jake Slade (131st, 25:18.6), Santiago Ruiz (139th, 25:22.2) and Kelly Galicia-Thomas (180th, 26:11.7).

Xander Olivero, who was running unattached, had the top individual time in the race at 23:30.4. The top collegiate time belonged to Michael Phillips of Long Beach State at 23:32.5.

Chico State easily won the team title with 54 points. The Wildcats were followed by Weber State (120), Nevada (129), LMU (133) and Cal Poly (167) in the top five.

The five scorers for the Sacramento State women all crossed within seven seconds of each other. The group was led by Latinsics who completed the 6K course course in 21:56.9 to place 105th. Dani Gee finished in 111th place in 21:59.1 to rank second on the team. The next three counters were packed within one second. Sophia Dudley ran 22:05.6, Kaleena Narus had a time of 22:06.1 and Dakota Gibson finished in 22:06.4.

San Francisco compiled 74 points to edge UC Davis (110) for first place in the team standings.Host Santa Clara (135) was third and was followed by Cal Poly (149) and Grand Canyon (153) in the top five.

USF's Ruby Smee easily won the individual title. Smee ran 19:36.2 to finish over four seconds ahead of UC Davis' Brianna Weidler (19:40.7).

The Hornets will next compete at the Big Sky Championships in Spokane, Wash., on Oct. 28.
