Box Score RENO, Nev. -- Nevada finished with nine runs and 12 hits against three Sacramento State pitchers on the way to a 9-0 win over the Hornets on the first day of the Wolf Pack Classic at Hixon Park. The game was stopped after five innings because of the eight-run mercy rule.
Sacramento State (13-9) had won seven of its last nine games prior to this afternoon's loss. The Hornets will play once more tomorrow vs. Pacific at 9 a.m., and again on Sunday against both Pacific (11:30 a.m.) and Nevada (4:30 p.m.) to conclude the three-day tournament.
Nevada improved to 8-13 with today's victory.
The Wolf Pack put up crooked numbers in the first (3), third (2) and fourth (3) innings, and only needed four innings of at-bats to enforce the mercy rule. Sacramento State hurlers Jensen Main (2.0 ip), Alyssa Nunez (1.0 ip) and Danielle Sperry (1.0 ip) each pitched in today's game.
The Hornets had just three base runners off Nevada starter Blake Craft (2-7) who allowed two hits (both singles) and a walk over five innings.
Sacramento State received its hits from Charizma Guzman and Lewa Day who each singled. Amber Rodriguez drew the Hornets' lone walk. The hit for Day extended her hitting streak to a season-high tying six games.
