• The 1980 Sacramento State volleyball team holds the distinction of being the first Hornet program to win a national championship.
• Won the AIAW Div. III national title in a sudden death single game playoff victory over Azusa Pacific. Trailing, 11-4, the Hornets rallied to knock off the Cougars, 15-12.
• The team finished the season with a 32-4 record, and posted a 4-1 mark at the 12-team, double elimination national tournament.
• The team also became the first in Golden State Conference history to post a perfect 14-0 league record.
• Four players were named All-American that season - setter Robin Acquistapace, outside hitters Kris Jacobsen and Jonelle Johnson, and middle blocker Darlene Smartt.
