MEN’S BASKETBALL SIGNS UAB CENTER JOAO DAS CHAGAS

SACRAMENTO -- Sacramento State head coach Mike Bibby announced today that 6-foot-10, 250-pound center João Das Chagas will transfer from UAB to the Hornets.

A native of Brazil, Das Chagas will be the Hornets' seventh signee for the 2026-27 season, joining:

• A 6-10, 250-pound center from Niquelândia, Brazil
• Will be a junior with the Hornets
• Played this past season (2025-26) for UAB of the American Athletic Conference
• Injured in second game of the season and did not play the remainder of the year
• In the opener, he had two points and five rebounds in 13 minutes
• Played his sophomore season (2024-25) at Indian Hills JC in Iowa, and freshman season (2023-24) at Arizona Western JC
• Also redshirted one season (2022-23) at Utah Valley of the Western Athletic Conference
• Averaged 6.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 54% from the field for an Indian Hills team that went 27-6
• An honorable mention all-Region 11 selection at Indian Hills, and was the National Player of the Week after posting 25 points and 23 rebounds in a win
• Of his 168 rebounds, 69 came on the offensive glass
• As a redshirt freshman at Arizona Western JC, he averaged 5.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 50% for a program that finished 20-10
• Attended the NBA Academy Latin America in San Luis Potosi, Mexico
