MARICOPA, Ariz. — Sophia Lee posted a pair of under-par rounds and Ella Kraft shot 69 in the second round to lead Sacramento State in the first two rounds of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes.
 
The Hornets finished the opening day at 4-over par and are in fourth place. Iowa State, which is ranked 22^nd in Div. I, holds a commanding 13-stroke lead over BYU at the top of the leaderboard. New Mexico State is third at 3-over while the Hornets and UNLV (6-over) complete the top five.
 
Lee is tied for eighth place at 3-under par. The freshman shot 71 in the opening round and followed with a 70 in the afternoon. She was 2-over through her first eight holes of the morning round before picking up birdies on the par-4 second, fifth and 10^th holes. Lee was 1-over through her first 11 holes of the second round until a birdie on the par-3 fourth. A bogey on No. 5 took her back to 1-over until birdies on Nos. 7, 9 and 10.
 
Ella Kraft is tied for 12^th after shooting 75-69. Kraft had three birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey in the first round. She was never above par in the second round as she birdied her first hole (No. 13). Despite the start, Kraft was even through seven holes and then went on a run which saw her birdie five of her next eight holes to get to 5-under. She closed her day with pars on both sides of a double-bogey on the par-3 11^th.
 
Darla May Dela Torre and Tova Hatton each totaled 149 during the day and are tied for 44^th place. Dela Torre shot 75-74 while Hatton had the reverse.
 
Jocelyn Tseng ranked second on the team in the first round with an even-par 72. She had three birdies over her first nine holes but added three bogeys on the second half of her round. Tseng followed with an 85 in the second round and is tied for 88^th.
 
The third round will have a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. PT. Sacramento State will begin on Nos. 2 and 3.
