SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's golf team will have the opportunity to play one of the top public courses in American is it competes at the Bandon Dunes Championships on Sun.-Tue. in Bandon, Ore. The event will feature a single 18-hole round on each day.

Sacramento State has made one other appearance at the tournament, placing 12
th out of 18 teams in 2023. That year, the tournament had the second round washed out and the Hornets finished the tournament at 307-298-605. Jeffrey Perry was the low for the team, shooting 77-75-151 to tie for 40
th.
Zach Mate and
Gabriel Smith are the only two returners from that team who will compete this week.

The 2026 Bandon Dunes Championship will be comprised of 14 teams from across the country. Oregon (60
th), Oregon State (73
rd) and Santa Clara (90
th) are all ranked among the top 100 teams in the country. The next closest teams to those three are Seton Hall, Utah Tech, Idaho and Sacramento State which are all ranked between 130
th and 150
th in the rankings.

This week will mark the third tournament for the Hornets since the last week of February. Sacramento State began the stretch at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate where it placed sixth and followed with a tie for seventh at Nick Watney Invitational. During those six rounds the team has finished under par three times and is just +2.6 strokes above par per round.

The team will use the same six players this week as it did in Fresno for the Nick Watney Invitational. The only change to the team will be Mate will return to the lineup while
Zach Matzke will play as an individual.
