HATTON ADDS ANOTHER TOP 20 FINISH; WOMEN'S GOLF PLACES SIXTH AT DR. DONNIS THOMPSON INVITATIONAL

'AIEA, Hawaii — Darla May Dela Torre finished the third round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational with a 1-over par 72 to lead the Sacramento State women's golf team. The Hornets finished in sixth place in a tournament which featured three top-25 teams.
 
Dela Torre overcame a bogey on her opening hole to get to even at the midway point of her round with a birdie on the par-4 11th and seven pars. Bogeys on the par-5 17th and par-3 third took her to 2-over before she closed with a birdie on the par-5 fifth. The score for the sophomore was her best in 12 spring rounds and helped her to a tie for 27th in the tournament.
 
Tova Hatton had the best finish on the team by tying for 19th. Hatton started her round with a birdie on No. 5 but found herself at 2-over at the midway point. A birdie on the par-4 18th was later followed by a bogey on No. 3. The sophomore recorded her third-consecutive top-20 finish and fifth of the year.
 
Freshmen Sophia Lee and Jocelyn Tseng each shot 74 during the final round. Lee had a birdie, two bogeys and a double-bogey. Tseng had a birdie, five bogeys and a double bogey while playing as an individual.
 
Ella Kraft had the second-highest overall finish as she tied for 23rd with rounds of 70-72-77-219.
 
No. 2 USC went wire-to-wire to win the team title. The team finished at 28-under and was 23-strokes clear of No. 13 North Carolina and No. 23 Arizona State which tied for second.
 
Sacramento State will next compete at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Apr. 7-8. The event will be the final tuneup before the Big Sky Championship on Apr. 19-21.
