WOMEN'S GOLF TIES FOR 10TH AT GOLFWEEK RED SKY CLASSIC

Kraft shoots 1-under, Hatton and Dela Torre are even in third round

WOLCOTT, Colo. — The Sacramento State women's golf team produced its best round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic on Wednesday and tied for 10th place in the 20-team field. The Hornets were led by Ella Kraft who finished the day at 1-under par and Tova Hatton and Darla May Dela Torre who were both even.

Sacramento State moved up three positions in the team standings and concluded the event with a team score of 294-303-289-886 to stand at 22-over. USC won the team title and set the tournament record by finishing at 45-under. The Trojans were 21-under during the third round alone and were guided by Kylie Chong and Jasmine Koo who tied for medalist honors at 13-under par.

Kraft started the third round with a par on the 15th hole and then birdied the par-4 16th. Her only bogeys of the day followed on Nos. 17 and 18 and she stayed at 1-over until a birdie on the par-5 fifth. Following eight-straight pars, Kraft birdied the par-4 14th to get to 1-under. The senior has posted scores of par or better in four of her six rounds this season.

Hatton matched Kraft with three birdies during the third round on Wednesday. She birdied the par-4 13th (her second hole) to get to 1-under and remained there until a double bogey on No. 18. A birdie on the par-4 third was immediately followed by a bogey and she returned to even three holes later with a birdie on the par-3 seventh.

Dela Torre opened play with five-straight pars and was never more than 1-shot over par during the round. She bogeyed No. 18, birdied the par-5 second, bogeyed No. 4 and birdied the par-3 ninth. Dela Torre and Hatton finished the tournament with identical totals of 223 to tie for 44th place.

The best finish on the team belonged to freshman Sophia Lee who shot 72-75-74-221 over the three days. On Wednesday, Lee was 3-over at the midway point of her round before playing her final nine holes at 1-under with the help of birdies on the par-4 fourth and par-3 ninth to offset one bogey.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Golf Iconic Classic in Las Cruces, N.M., on Oct. 13-15.
