SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's tennis junior tandem of Lou Baudouin and Irene Riva finished off a weekend of stiff competition in San Francisco, competing in both singles and doubles at the annual Battle in the Bay Classic.

The duo opened with a big victory over the Oklahoma State doubles pairing of Gracie Epps and Marcela Lopez in a tie breaker, 8-7 (7), on Thursday (Sept. 11), taking down the main draw's third-seeded team and the preseason No. 53 ranked pairing in the nation. The momentum could not carry over into the quarterfinals on Friday, falling to Arizona's Zoya Chulak and Haylee Conway, 8-3.

In singles, Riva opened against the nation's No. 101-ranked player in Oklahoma State's Lucia Peyre, falling, 6-2, 7-5, then lost to Colorado's Lera Alexin, 7-5, 6-3, in the consolation round of 32.

Baudouin, meanwhile, battled TCU's Yu-Chin Tsai in a three-set marathon, winning the opening set, 6-2, before Tsai rallied for 6-2 and 6-3 victories in the final two sets. In the consolation round, Baudouin ran into another Buffalo, falling to Colorado's Ema Bubalo, 6-4, 7-6 (2).

The team will next compete at the Cal Fall Invitational on Sept. 26-28 in Berkeley, Calif., while junior Reese Walker will make her way to Cary, N.C., this weekend to compete at the ITA All-American Championships, which begins on Saturday (Sept. 20).

Walker opens as one of 160 players in the pre-qualfying rounds, with the top 16 players earning a spot in the main draw bracket.
