STOCKTON, Calif. — Sacramento State doubles teams won a total of four doubles matches over two days in Stockton, Calif., as the Hornets went head-to-head against three other schools at the Central Valley Clash tournament hosted by Pacific at the Eve ZImmerman Tennis Center.

Sacramento State was joined by student-athletes from the host Tigers, UC Davis, and UC Santa Cruz in the three-day event.

Senior Irene Riva won two of her three doubles contests alongside teammates Nel Van Hout and Reese Walker, defeating Pacific's Indiya McLeod and Leyanne Hirota, 8-4, as well as the duo of Lucy Yung and Chloe Wu from UC Santa Cruz, 8-5.

Walker was also a two-time winner in doubles, adding a win over the Banana Slugs' Chloe Khachadourian and Abigail Eau, 8-3, alongside freshman teammate Jess Schilz, while posting a single-set singles win over the Aggies' Alieena Hu, 6-1.

The tournament marked the Hornet debuts of newcomers Van Hout, Schilz, and freshman Darya Savina.

It was the second event of the year for Sacramento State after junior Elena Merciou competed at the ITA Women's All-America Championships in Cary, N.C. Merciou opened with a pre-qualifying round victory over Charlotte's Shona Nakano, 6-4, 6-4, before dropping the opening set to California's Nika Hurkacz, 6-4, and retiring due to injury at 5-5 in the second.

The Hornets will send a contingent to Southern California this weekend, competing in the Big West Fall Selection Tournament on Oct. 1-4 in La Jolla, Calif. The singles and doubles champions from the event earn the conference's berths for the ITA Conference Masters tournament which serves as a qualifier for the NCAA individual championships in late November.
