SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State track and field team will have its final tune-up before hosting the Big Sky Outdoor Championships as the team will take part in a pair of meets this weekend. The Hornets' top sprinters and jumpers will compete at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz., on Saturday while the remainder of the team will make the relatively short trip to the Fresno State Invitational. That meet begins with the hammer and shot put on Friday while everything else takes place on Saturday.

Sacramento State last competed at the Causeway Classic Dual last Friday at UC Davis. The Hornets defeated the Aggies in the men's and women's standings to sweep the titles for the third-consecutive year. Following this weekend's action the team will have 11 days off before beginning the Big Sky Outdoor Championships on May 14-17 at Hornet Stadium.

The Desert Heat Classic, hosted by Arizona, will include four other Big Sky Conference teams comprised of Eastern Washington, Idaho, Northern Arizona and Weber State. The meet attracts some of the top teams in the West including Arizona State, Colorado, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

The Fresno State Invite will have Friday's action take place on campus on Friday and Saturday's program at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif., on Saturday. The 10-team meet will include several Mountain West Conference schools in Boise State, Fresno State, Nevada, San Jose State and Wyoming.
