SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For the first time since 2017 the Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships will return to Hornet Stadium as Sacramento State will host the event on Mar. 14-17.
Â
The competition will begin with the heptathlon and decathlon on Wednesday and Thursday. The decathlon will start with the 100-meter dash at 10 a.m. while the heptathlon will get under way with the 100-hurdles at 10:30 a.m. The final event of Wednesday will be the decathlon 400 at 4 p.m. (times subject to change).
Â
The multi events will conclude on Thursday on the same schedule. The men will start at 10 a.m. with the 110-hurdles and the final event will be the 1500 at 4:30 p.m.
Â
The main program of the meet will begin on Friday. Field events start at noon with the men's javelin and high jump. The first running event will be the women's steeplechase at 2 p.m. and will wrap up with the men's 10K at 7:35 p.m.
Â
An action-packed Saturday will start at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer. The women's 4x100 kicks off the running events at noon and the 4x400 relays will end the four days at approximately 3:45 p.m.
Â
Sacramento State will be represented by 22 men and 22 women. The Hornets will have
Jack Charlton,
Joshua Braun and
Blake DaQuino in the decathlon as well as
Eliana Coburn and
Hollie Lewis in the heptathlon on the first two days.
Â
Three Hornets enter the weekend as the top-ranked athlete in their respective event.
Ava Fitzgerald is tops in the Big Sky in the 100-hurdles following a time of 13.15 seconds at the Desert Heat Classic two weeks ago. The men will see
Miles Grant looking to repeat as the conference high jump champion and
Kellan Quinley who owns the best mark in the triple jump in his first year with the program.
Â
The Big Sky Conference women's team title has only been won by two teams — Northern Arizona and Sacramento State — in the last 16 meets. Each team has won eight titles during that span. The men have seen more than twice the variety as Montana State captured the 2024 title on its own track to snap a streak of three-straight wins by NAU. Southern Utah, Sacramento State and Weber State have also claimed titles since 2008.
