MARICOPA, Ariz. — The Sacramento State women's golf team overcame a tough first round and moved up three spots in the standings in the second round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Monday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes GC.

The Hornets shot 309 in the opening round as a team but rallied to total 291 in the second round and move into fifth place. The team is at 24-over par and is 12 shots back of Iowa State for the lead. The remainder of the top five is comprised of UNLV (13-over), Grand Canyon (20-over) and Santa Clara (22-over).

Sneha Sharan and
Caitlin Maurice each shot 75 in the opening round to lead the team. Sharan had 15 pars and three bogeys in the round while Maurice had two birdies and five bogeys. The team also counted rounds from
Ella Kraft (79) and
Darla May Dela Torre (80 In the morning.

Sacramento State saw improvements from all six of its golfers in the second round. Kraft paced the team with a 2-under par round of 70. The junior was 1-over through three holes before an eagle on the 496-yard, par-5 13
th took her to 1-under. A stretch of bogey-bogey-birdie left her even where she remained through nine holes. Once on the front side of the course. Kraft bogeyed No. 1 and then ran off birdies on Nos. 3-5 to get to 2-under. She finished the day with pars on her final four holes and is tied for 13th.

Sharan is tied for fourth place overall after a 71 in the second round. Her 36-hole total of 146 places her one shot off the individual lead which is shared by three golfers. In the second round, Sharan started with a birdie on the par-4 ninth. Bogeys on Nos. 12 and 14 rose her score to 1-over but she stood even at the midway point of the round with a birdie on the par-3 17
th. Sharan was 1-under on her final nine holes with birdies on Nos. 5 and 7 sandwiched around a bogey on the par-3 sixth.

Maurice and Dela Torre each shot 75 to complete the team total in the second round. Maurce had 16 pars, a bogey and a double bogey and is tied for 18
th place. Dela Torre had two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.

Florencia Dufey, who is playing as an individual, followed a 79 in the first round with a 1-over par 73 in the afternoon. Dufey got off to a quick start with a birdie on No. 18 (her second hole) and remained at 1-under for the next five holes. A double-bogey on No. 10 and a bogey on No. 12 took her to 3-over before she closed with birdies on the par-4 15
th and par-5 16
th.

The third round will have a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. PT where the Hornets will be paired with Wyoming, California Baptist and North Dakota State on holes No. 5-8.
